Saturday Dinner Party

Tulips on the Table

Someone once told me being invited to one of my dinner parties was like finding a golden ticket in a candy bar.  That has been one of the loveliest food compliments I have received in a long time.  In reality, my dinner parties are nothing more than larger servings of recipes I make every day.  No fancy China or crystal stemware here.  Just great food that looks as good as it tastes.

This past Saturday, Brent and I invited a few newly made friends to break bread and share an evening of good conversation.  Our only requirement was each guest had to bring a favorite wine to pass around the table.  What made this group unique was no one had ever tasted my cooking before.  Sure, no pressure.  To make things even more challenging, I decided to seize the opportunity to test a couple of recipes on my fresh new guinea pigs.  Completely new crowd and I decided to cook blind?  Yikes!

Sophie in the Kitchen

The Menu:
Pesto Goat Cheese Stuffed Tomatoes
Pear Lettuce Salad with Maple Dijon Vinaigrette
Roasted Rosemary Lemon Cornish Game Hen
Roasted Vegetables
Savory Couscous
Apple Tart Tatin with Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream

The evening was wonderful and the food was amazing.  We couldn’t have asked for better weather, and the house glowed with the energy of laughter.  Throughout the next several posts, I will be sharing the recipes I created for the joyous evening.  I hope you savor the flavors and colors as much as we did.

Wine and Glasses

Top:  A big bunch of tulips made a bold statement in our warm blue dining room.
Middle:  Sophie loves to watch me cook.  I think the hand was a hint that it smelled good.
Bottom:  By requiring each guest to bring their favorite wine, it was a great way to try some new flavors.
