A Great Cause – Relay for Life

Let’s take a break from my regularly scheduled posts and reflect on life for a moment.  As I look back through the ups and downs of the past year, there is one thing that rings true.  I am sincerely grateful to be surrounded by a wonderful group of amazing people.  Each day of good health is a blessing.  So when I heard my good friend Deb was participating in a Relay for Life event at my alma mater, Grand Valley State University in Michigan, I knew I wanted to get involved.

This cause is near and dear to my heart for many reasons.  I believe every single person has somehow been touched by cancer, either directly or indirectly.  For me, I lost a cousin to cancer just a short time ago.  The fact the event is being hosted at a university am proud to have earned a degree from, makes it all the more special.  (I also have two sisters finishing their degrees there now.)

Deb set a modest goal of $200.  But with your help, I believe we can blow that number out of the water.  Here is the link to her donation page if you would like to give.  Even an amount of $5.00 goes a long way in fighting against such a horrible disease.  Thanks for reading.

(Note: The donation site has closed.  Thanks for your support!)

Now it’s time for a little fun.  Since the Relay for Life logo has purple in it, I thought I would share some of my favorite purple food photos and recipes from a few fellow bloggers.  Enjoy!

DK’s Culinary Bazaar – Plum Jam and Canning 10

Veggie Wedgie – Roasted Garlic & Balsamic Purple Pure

Equal Opportunity Kitchen – Purple Haze Martini

The Kitchen Sink – Concord Grape Sorbet

Ice Cream Before Dinner – Cupcakes for a Cause

Cafe Nilson – Lasang Pinoy Sundays: Bread-y or Not!

Good luck with your relay! Thanks for the link to our blog. The martini is actually quite good, though the one I made was more on the pink side than purple.

Been a long time reader but I wanted to come out of the wood work to say Yaaaaaaay Relay!!

I’m a coordinator of one of the top fundraising (per capita) youth relays in the country and I love to see people supporting Relay at any time. Especially given the seemingly large number of cancer survivors in the food blogging community.

  3. I just very happily donate to your good friend Deb’s participation in Relay for Life…go Deb…!
My dear brother-in-law is battling cancer these days with not much success.

Here is a link to my blog images of purple food that you can add…
