Hello Toronto

Chicken Satay

I awoke this morning at 7:00 am to the sweet sounds of birds chirping out the windows of my Toronto accommodations.  Even as my dainty fingers danced across my keyboard to write this post, a squirrel began nibbling away tiny morsels of the green maple leaves from a tree located along my quiet Canadian street.  Suddenly, his curiosity for the strange human peering out the window caused him to stop enjoying his morning snack of leaf roughage to stare back.  Then, quick as a flash, he darted off to finish his remaining meal in peace.

Brent, our friend Ty and I decided to embark on a four day holiday to the glorious city of Toronto, Canada.  Yesterday, we made the five hour trek from Pittsburgh through the rolling hills of northwestern PA, along the coast of Lake Erie and over the majestic Niagara Falls to reach the border of Canada.  A couple flips of our passports and an assurance to the officer we were “just visiting”, the journey into uncharted Canadian territory began.

I’ve never had the pleasure of visiting this part Canada, much less Toronto.  But from what I have read from my many Toronto food blogger friends, this is a city worth savoring.  Last night, our first meal in the fine city was a pub with a glorious outdoor patio offering the best people watching I’ve had in a long time.  We sat for hours sipping our beverages, dining on amazing pub fare and watched people scurry to their final destinations.   After exploring a bit, I realized that Toronto is a fabulous walking city, much like Chicago, with an incredible selection of shops and markets that are full of lush produce.  Now I can see why you Toronto foodies talk it up so much.

We found ourselves in Chinatown around lunch time today.  Let’s just say, after a long morning of walking, we were a tad bit hungry.  Ty decided to give me a “little lesson” on how he takes proper restaurant food photos.  I do have to admit, he did a pretty good job.

Hopefully I’ll have a chance to share a few more moments of my Toronto experiences as trip continues.  But for now, it’s time for a much needed nap.  I’m on vacation after all.

Yeah, you should have taken Stacey’s advice…perhaps next time. Glad you enjoyed Toronto – it’s a fantastic food city.

Toronto is a fantastic city! I’m glad you went visit and that you had fun! You can find a restaurant from every single country in the world in Toronto, did you know that?! It’s such a vibrant, dynamic city, but at the same time, not overwhelming and very inviting. I love it!!
I wish I knew how to take proper restaurant photos, mine always end up looking like dog food :(

Hey Marta, I totally agree. Toronto is so dynamic and completely accessible. I’m actually planning on going back in a couple weeks. So excited!

Those are some great pictures! Glad you’re enjoying Toronto – it really is a great place to live, visit and EAT. I’ve heard the food at the Spoke Club is really good as well!

Never been to Toronto, but I hear its a foodie paradise!

I liked your analogy of Toronto to Chicago (where I live)!

    Have fun!!

  5. Looks absolutely savory and delicious. Love those colorful bubble tea drinks! Chewy, eh? Yum.

Hi CC, thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting on my friend’s couscous. She’ll be thrilled! She even took the picture and experienced what the rest of bloggers do — people making fun of us in the home taking pictures while they’re waiting to eat. Have fun in Toronto. I’ve only been there once but remember some good eats. Even the Olive Garden was fabulous there.

  7. CC,
If you are on facebook or twitter……you must email Peter @Kalofagas blog. He is a Greek guy in Toronto who has a great blog and knows food! He is so nice, we met him in NYC.
Tell him I sent you! He would love to show you around!
    Enjoy your trip!

If you think Toronto is glorious, you need to make a trip out to Vancouver! And “glorious” is an adjective that rarely comes to mind about Toronto, at least to other Canadians… but I’m glad you’re having a good time.

  9. The first dish is too enticing! What great looking Chinese food. Um, do we need to schedule a trip to Toronto?
