Today Felt like Christmas

I came home from a long day of work today to be greeted by a very happy dog. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I noticed not one…but TWO packages waiting for me. The first was from my wonderful fellow food blogger Thérèse-Marie from Feasting on Gluten-Free Pixels. She celebrated her one year blogiversary with a book giveaway to share with her loyal readers. I was honored to be the recipient of the glorious “My Life in France” by Julia Child.
There is a small bookstore in the basement of the Sears Tower. When I lived in Chicago, I would go for a walk around the downtown area for lunch, and almost always ended up stopping by that bookstore for a quick peek at the paperbacks. I seemed to eventually gravitate toward this book, but never actually bought it. I guess it was fate for me to wait until now to receive it as a gift from such a lovely food blogger. I’m so looking forward to reading it on the plane to New York City next week.
The second package was from Brent’s mom. She recently found a cool set of hand-carved wooden pears. Her card stated that when she saw them, she knew they would be the perfect housewarming gift. I completely agree. The pear is my icon for this blog, and I have inadvertently started to collect pear items from time to time. These wooden orbs, in all of their textured glory, will be a perfect addition to the collection. Thanks Deb!
As if getting two wonderful packages weren’t enough, I had received an email from Foodbuzz telling me my Party on the Porch submission was accepted for a live blogging event on August 22. I will be one of only 10 people to receive $250 and a gift basket worth $100 from Foodbuzz and Smirnoff. Can you believe it? I’m going to get paid to throw a dinner party, and the only thing I need to do is blog about it! I’m extremely excited and honored to be selected.
Overall, this has been a good week. On Monday, I munched on overbuttered popcorn while watching Julie and Julia. Tuesday was an evening with friends at a neighborhood pub. Finally, today was a happy day with my packages and party acceptance letter. I know the week is only half over, but I’m sure the best is yet to come.
P.S. Isn’t Thérèse-Marie’s handwriting wonderful? She makes my name look so pretty on paper!

Congrats on FoodBuzz!! That’s awesome!! And I LOVED Julia Child’s book… definitely a good one
Thank you so much, Sues. I’m enjoying the book so far for sure.
Ahhh…Julia, elle est venue pour visiter.
Joyeux Noël à tôt…(an early Merry Chrsitmas)…!
And, yes, DO read the Julie/Julia Project blog…it is great fun
and really an inspiration,,,(no matter what the critics say).
I love the gift from Brent’s maman…they are really gorgeous sculptures.
I can feel their weight and beautiful textures.
Happy Housewarming to you both…
Felicitations on you FoodBuzz win…! ! !
Way cool, and very, very deserving.
I can not wait to see your party.
Please take some images of you and cher Brent amidst the glorious food
I know you will be serving.
You both absolutely crack me up about my handwriting…
The handwriting you see is what occurs when a child is taught by strict French Nuns
that expect nothing less than perfection. (and she is also a very naughty child and has to
write her name 200 times per infraction of any rule.)
I imagine I was the Bart Simpsom of the school…lol…!
But merci mille fois for the kind compliment on my script.
Bisous to you both and
Bon appètit…!
Thérèse-Marie
What awesome goodies! I’m jealous, guess I will have to buy that book!
Congrats on your cool pears, I’m sure they are a great addition to your collection. And yes, gorgeous handwriting!
I still can’t believe you were picked for the party out of all the submissions! Its going to be so much fun.
Thérèse-Marie, I love your handwriting! It looks like a script/font; It is absolutely lovely.
Oh you’re going to love “My Life in France”! After that read “Julie & Julia” right along side her old blog about the whole ordeal – it’s still up in cyberspace.
Enjoy all your LOOT!
