Labor Day Weekend Adventures

My idea of a good workout involves whipping cream by hand. Brent, on the other hand, is a devoted volleyball player with a team that has the same drive for jumping, serving and spiking as I do for baking a delicious batch of cookies. The team traveled to Columbus, OH this weekend for a league tournament against teams that traveled far and wide to sweat together in an overheated sports complex.
Since Brent is very supportive of my need to buy flour and sugar in 10 lb. increments, the least I could do was drive 3 hours to cheer them on. Yes, it’s true. I know nothing about volleyball or any other sport for that matter. So I decided to show my support in the best way I knew how. I made a pretty sign and baked a batch of Chocolate Chip M&M Cookies.
Sadly, Brent injured his ankle quite badly halfway through the first of the two day tournament. He was a trooper for helping finish out the day so the team would avoid being disqualified, but was in no condition to play the second day. He still cheered the rest of his teammates through a series of intense matches against several very talented teams. I also did my part by passing out cookies to anyone within a 4-foot radius.
The cookies were a huge hit. It was wonderful to see how Brent’s team acted when they bit into the chewy disks and crunched into the candy coated chocolate. It was as if these grown adults immediately discovered the fountain of youth and turned 12 instantaneously. Something tells me I might be making more in the very near future.
Authors Note: Brent’s team name is “The Meat Rack”, with each player nicknamed after a meat product of their choosing, including a couple of vegetarian ones. Needless to say, I got a kick out of screaming cooking puns at the opposing teams.

LOL, that sounds like an adventure. Too bad Brent injured himself and couldn’t finish the tournament. Maybe next time his team will play against mine. If I ever get over the embarrassment of last year LOL.
