Chicago Sign Holiday 09

This is part of my Chicago Holiday Adventures series.
Check out my other posts: A Foodie Within, O’ Christmas Tree, Walking Tour

I was fortunate enough to live in one of my most favorite cities for a little over five years. While my current residence of Pittsburgh is wonderful, there is still a place in my heart for Chicago. I love the architecture and culture. I love the energy of the urban experience. Most of all, I love the food.

After the realization I had a free flight on American Airlines to use up before the end of the year; I decided it was a perfect excuse to spend a week immersing myself in the urban jungle. It does seem a little crazy to spend my vacation in one of the coldest cities in December. At least that’s what most of my friends told me.

Chicago Skyline Holiday 09

You see, there is nothing like the holiday’s in Chicago. Imagine walking down Michigan Avenue with a cup of hot chocolate in your hand as people from all walks of life shuffle between shops to find the perfect gift. As you pass the famous Water Tower, with the Hershey’s store in the background, you hear the sweet sounds of your favorite holiday tunes drifting in the distance. Even after you tighten your scarf to protect from the gusts of crisp wind coming from Lake Michigan past the Hancock Tower; you still take a sip and press on to see more. That is what makes Chicago during the holidays so special to me.

I’m looking forward to share with you a few of my most memorable experiences from my Chicago adventures over the next several posts. Be sure to grab a snack before you start reading my post about my foodie adventures. Get ready to smile when you see photos of the Christmas trees I encountered along the way. Finally, I hope you will experience the true beauty of the Chicago architecture as you check out the images from my walk around the city.

Oh, I miss my home town terribly. I was lucky enough to grow up there and try to get home whenever I can. Thanks for bringing a little Chicago to all of us.

Therese-Marie and Amanda: Sorry about not being able to meet-up. It’s amazing how there are so little hours in the day. I plan to take several trips back to Chicago in 2010. We will totally meet up soon.

    Rats, were you already here?

  4. There’s a buzz in the air in Chicago around the holidays like nowhere else! Who can resist peeking in the decked out department store windows? Love it!
