Top 9 of 2009

All of the recipes I post on this site are delicious in their own unique ways. Many have not had such an opportunity. There are a few that have stood out above the rest as the recipes I make time and time again. Here are my top 9 from 2009.

Snickerdoodle Cookies: These are an undisputed favorite cookie among my friendship circle. Would you believe it took a little under two years to make the perfect Snickerdoodle? The baking process has now become the basis for all drop cookies I make.

Homemade Oreo Ice Cream: While I love ice cream in general, homemade varieties are my favorite. I’ve tried several ice cream recipes, but none have ever lived up to chunky Oreos suspended in homemade vanilla ice cream. This is definitely my “go to” treat while I continue to try new ice cream concoctions.

Roasted Tomatillo Salsa: I never really considered using tomatillo’s in a recipe before coming across this salsa on Jersey Girl Cooks site. She made it look so easy; I just had to try it. It’s a wonderful party food in the summer time and an easy weeknight snack anytime of the year.

Pesto Goat Cheese Stuffed Tomatoes: When I was trying to decide on an easy appetizer for a dinner party, a friend of mine made a special request for something involving goat cheese. With only three ingredients and no need for cooking, these are definitely easy. These perfect little bites are packed with flavor.

Chocolate Pancakes: Who would have thought a breakfast food could be the perfect dessert. When I’m looking for a unique and memorable twist on either, I turn to these pancakes. Don’t take these brown orbs too lightly. They are hugely rich and decadent. I recommend a topping of fresh berries to help cut through the sweetness.

Polynesian Glazed Wings: Sticky, sweet and savory are the best terms to describe these wings. I’m a huge fan of making a large platter of wings, pop in a fun movie and sip on a tasty beverage. Several people have mentioned these wings are a great alternative to basic buffalo wings at a game day party.

Pesto Pea Pasta Salad: This was one of the first times I used Greek yogurt as a healthy alternative in a salad. It worked out perfectly to the point a friend of mine was picking the pasta out of the bowl with his fingers before I could grab a fork. The Greek yogurt adds a great tang without all the extra calories.

Thai Vegetable Salad: As a self-proclaimed vegetarian enthusiast, I enjoy reading cookbooks of the meatless variety on occasion. I wasn’t so sure this salad was going to be good when I first tried it, but much to my surprise, it has become a favorite. The vinaigrette is less about coating the ingredients with heaviness and more about enhancing the flavor of them.

Maple Dijon Vinaigrette: I first made this vinaigrette with pear lettuce salad for a dinner party. I’ve also discovered this recipe goes great with roasted vegetables like my Roasted Brussel Sprouts.

Artichoke and Spinach Dip: How could I forget one of my all time favorite dips? Originally inspired by a similar recipe posted on Stacey Snacks, I tested this several times before hitting on the perfect combination. Unlike other artichoke spinach dips, this one isn’t heavy with cream cheese or mayo. You can actually taste the ingredients in all of their glory.

I must have missed those Polynesian wings – yum!!

  3. Two years to perfect the snickerdoodle…wow. That’s dedication. They are not easy to get just right. We may have to try your recipe. :)

  4. DianaHayes says:

Tomatillo salsa – love it. This is the first year we couldn’t get a tomatillo plant growing. My husband loves tomatillos.
