Back when Santa brought my friends Tonka Trucks and Transformer action figures, I begged for garnishing kits, cookie sheets and measuring spoons. Back when my brother pinned his opponents on the wrestling mats and my sisters broke high school track records. I was in the kitchen accomplishing extraordinary culinary feats with crispy burned edges and too much salt. All were inspired by the cooking shows of the time like The Galloping Gourmet, The Frugal Gourmet and The French Chef with Julia Child.
Who would have thought my childhood obsession would transform into a bachelors degree in hospitality, a masters degree in food studies, a career in food and travel writing, and now a website about the successes (and challenges) of my culinary adventures.
I’m excited to have the perfect excuse for covering my entire kitchen with flour.
